Shillong: The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSAA) on Tuesday took out a “peaceful protest rally” to mount pressure on the National People’s Party-led government to implement their charter of demands.

The rally began from Jaiaw Jingthang briew (cremation ground) and culminated in the Students’ Field, Jaiaw in the same area.
Several NGOS from the city also extended their support to the MSSAA.
MSSASA president, Aristotle C. Rymbai, said that the SSA teachers were force to take to the streets after the State government failed to response to their three charter of demands for the welfare of the SSA government teachers.

The demands include the creation of posts and shifting of 12541 existing SSA teachers from State Implementation Society to the State Education department on regular basis as per provision of RTE/SSA Norms.

The second demand is the implementation of pay structure and to enhance the salary of 12541 SSA teachers working under Samagra Shiksha and the final demand is the release of the salary of the SSA teachers which has been pending from June this year Rymbai expressed his resentment against the State Government for non-fulfilment of the teachers’ demand and therefore sought the resignation of Education minister Lahkmen Rymbui.

Earlier. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had said the salaries have remained pending as the central government has not released its share of the salaries.

Sangma said 90 per cent of the funds relating to the salaries of SSA teachers come from the central government, which has not been released so far.

Nonetheless, the MSSAA leaders have decided to submit a letter to the State Government in the coming days with an ultimatum to fulfill the demand in two weeks time.
