Ambassa: Tipra Kerong Motha, a forum of indigenous lawyers arranged for first its kind awareness discussion on proposed Tipra Territorial Council (TTC) for the first time in the state at Salema community hall in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai today.
The organisation, as one of the portfolio holders, Advocate Kartik Jamatia informed, wanted the clarify different issues related to proposed TTC, its facilities and benefits on the life and culture of the indigenous community.
In his words, ” TTC is going to be formed by 125th amendment of the Indian Constitution. But there are many misconceptions about TTC among the tribal people though it is to empower the tribal community in every aspect of life. This amendment is to usher in economic empowerment with the authority as well as to build up better infrastructure in the sectors like health and education”. Mr Jamatia further informed, “We are here to clear all the doubts and we hope that we could cover all the eight districts in the state.”
In the programme political stalwarts like MLA Parimal Debbarma, Salema BAC Chairman and the chief organizer Bimal Debbarma, social activist Sachirani Tripura, Durgachowmuhani BAC Chairman Kumar Halam and hundreds of indigenous people remained present.
It is significant that before the ADC election, the move would set a strong resistance against the IPFT’s call for a separate Tipraland. With agency inputs
