Shillong: Meghalaya on Thursday recorded 229 new COVID-19, 102 more cases than on Wednesday, even as three more persons have succumbed to the viral infection, mounting the number of active cases up to 1,804 and toll to 1,370, health officials said on Thursday.
On the other hand, the recovery of 86 more COVID-19 patients on Thursday surged the number of recovered cases to 75,794, even as the State has so far registered 78,958 confirmed cases.
Of the three persons who died due to COVID-19,Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said two were not vaccinated against the virus.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills, which includes Meghalaya capital Shillong, continued to record comparatively higher number of daily COVID-19 count with the district accounting for 132 cases out of the 229 new cases detected across the State besides three deaths due to the viral disease on Thursday.
The West Jaintia Hills district reported 53 new COVID-19 cases, 13 cases in South West Khasi Hills district, ten cases in Ri-Bhoi district, seven cases in West Khasi Hills district, six cases in East Jaintia Hills district, three cases each in North Garo Hills district and West Garo Hills district, besides one cases each in East Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district, the official said.
The East Khasi Hills district had the highest number of active COVID-19 cases at 828 followed by West Khasi Hills district with 311 active cases, West Jaintia Hills district with 211 active cases, Ri-Bhoi district with 164 active cases, South West Khasi Hills district with 91 active cases and West Garo Hills district with 55 active cases, while the other districts had less than 30 active cases each, as per the latest official case count.
Of the 10, 27,792 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till Thursday, 9,48,834 persons were tested negative for the virus, health officials said.
On the other hand, 32,047 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 26,564 were administered with the second dose, 96,956 front-line workers got the first jab of the vaccine and 73,631 took the second shot, while 9,23,414 persons from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 2,81,163 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, health officials said.
