Imphal: Minister of WR and YAS Letpao Haokip inspected various places at Moreh town Saturday to undertake various developmental works.
He inspected the wooden bridge that runs over the Khunjaorok river at Moreh Ward no 6. Speaking to media persons, the minister said that the present condition of the bridge is in extremely bad shape and must have caused huge inconvenience to the public. He took serious concern and assured that he will bring up the matter to the Chief Minister at the earliest and will pursue and discuss under which funds the project of the construction can be included. He said that construction will start very soon.
Letpao further added that the banks of the Khujaorok river adjacent to this bridge are also very critical and are on the verge of breaking down anytime. So, as a Water Resources Department Minister, he is ensuring that the protection/retaining walls be built up at the earliest and the funds for the project will come under NEESD. Officials of the WR department were also present in the inspection.
On the other hand, Letpao Haokip visited Sahei village, located on the outskirts of Moreh. There, he met with the village chief and later inspected the village playground. He expressed his genuine interest in upgrading the playground to a standard level in the interest of the players and the youths in general, as the playground has been hosting many major tournaments of Moreh town.
Earlier on the day, the minister visited S Moljol village. There, he had a meeting with the village chief along with the Chancellor of the Manipur International University (MIU), Dr Harikumar Pallathadka. They discussed the proposed site for the construction of the University Campus under UNESCO at Moljol, and the process and requirements for acquiring the land area for the purpose.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur International University (MIU) is an Autonomous State Statutory International University established and recognised by the State Government of Manipur. MIU is established by an Act called the Manipur International University Act 2018 and is recognised and listed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is also declared as the ‘International University of Excellence’ and ‘Institution of State Importance’. It plans to establish various districts of Manipur and it is dedicated to the overall development of Manipur.
