Meghalaya police seize huge cache of explosives

Meghalaya police spokesperson, Gabriel Iangrai said 2044 numbers of aluminium instantaneous electronic detonator Class-6, Division 3 and 4027 number of Neo Gel (Gelatine Sticks) was seized from the vehicle after a hot pursuit.

Shillong: Meghalaya police on Friday arrested one person with a huge cache of explosives after a hot pursuit on AH-1 in Ri-Bhoi district.

The explosives were recovered from a vehicle bearing Assam registration number AS-01-BV-8065, which was proceeding towards Assam’s main city Guwahati, at a police checkpoint near the Byrnihat police outpost at around 1.10 a.m and the driver of the vehicle Moynul Hoque of Rangaswari village under Kamrup district of Assam was arrested.

Meghalaya police spokesperson, Gabriel Iangrai said 2044 numbers of aluminium instantaneous electronic detonator Class-6, Division 3 and 4027 number of Neo Gel (Gelatine Sticks) was seized from the vehicle after a hot pursuit.

“Initially, the driver of the vehicle was signalled to stop at Umsning but he evaded the police team by speeding the vehicle, following which a police team pursued the vehicle and it was finally detained in Byrnihat checkpoint,” Iangrai said.

He said a criminal case has been registered under Nongpoh Police Station against the occupant of the vehicle under the relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.

The investigation of the case is in progress to further ascertain the facts, he added.
