Shillong: National president of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the party’s office in national capital New Delhi, a first for any Northeast-based political party.
NPP being the eighth national party in the country was allotted the party office by the Central Government at 75 North Avenue.
After dedicating the party office to his late father Purno A’gitok Sangma, Sangma informed that the Central Government has allotted the party office to NPP for fulfilling the criteria as national party status.
“No political party from Northeast has ever achieved this level,” he said, while terming that the inauguration of the party office in Delhi was “a great moment for the people of Northeast”.
“The NPP has been working with a focused approach to reach out to different parts of the country, wherever the vacuum for political leadership is required,” he said, adding that NPP, which started its journey with focus on the Northeast, was “slowly expanding its reach for the greater cause of the minorities and the marginalised section of the society”.
“In the coming days, NPP will further strengthen itself and will emerge as a major political force and will ensure victory of the party in the State election in Manipur, which is slated for 2022,” he said, while expressing confidence that the next Chief Minister in the Manipur would be from NPP. He also welcomed various leaders from different political parties, who joined the party on Thursday and will contest for the upcoming assembly elections in Manipur.
While Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar Singh said that NPP leadership has been working to ensure that the party becomes a mighty political force across Northeast. “We made a humble beginning in Manipur. Today, we have become an acceptable party in Manipur and have expanded our wings across the State. In the next election, we will contest from the majority of seats to validate our party’s victory,” he added.
