Loken Singh became interim president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee

On July 16 last week, Govindas Konthoujam resigned as president of MPCC citing his personal reasons.

Imphal: Congress President Sonia Gandhi Saturday appointed Nameirakpam Loken Singh, vice president, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, as interim president of Manipur Congress.

“Congress President has approved the proposal of the appointment of Loken Singh, senior vice president in MPCC  as Interim President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect, till a full time President is appointed,” said a statement issued by K C Venugopal, general secretary, All India Congress Committee.

On July 16 last week, Govindas Konthoujam resigned as president of MPCC citing his personal reasons.  

Currently an MLA, a former Social welfare minister, N Loken Singh won the Nambol Assembly constituency fifth time.

Loken, 53, was born at Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai and currently settled at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai, Imphal West. He was first elected to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly on an MPP ticket in 1995. Later, he shifted to Indian National Congress (INC) and was reelected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly and became Minister of State (Rural Development & Panchayati Raj). In 2007, Loken was reelected to the 9th Assembly election on INC ticket and then became Minister (Agriculture, SW&MI and Veity & A,H). He was again reelected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election. In  2016, he was elected as Vice-President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. Again in 2017, Loken was reelected in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket.

Loken who loves travelling and photography has visited more a dozen countries both in official and in private capacity which include France, Netherland, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Iceland and Vietnam.

He was two daughters and one son.
