Minister Letpao Haokip flags off athletes for Tokyo Olympics

Imphal: Youth Affairs & Sports Minister, Letpao Haokip, flagged off the ‘ Blessing Rally’ for 5 athletes from the state and an also 1 athlete from Mizoram who will be participating in different fields in the ensuing Olympic Games 2020 to be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, at Tokyo, Japan. The rally was organised by the Sports Authority of India, NERC, Imphal.

The Minister praised the athletes for being selected to represent the country through their dedication and hard work in their respective fields and added that these athletes are the reason that the state is known as the “Sports Powerhouse” in the country. He hoped state athletes along with the one from Mizoram would bring laurels to the state and the country.

He informed that the state Cabinet has already decided to five Rs. 75 lakhs each to all the five participants and as a reward Rs.1.25 crore to any Gold medalist, Rs. 1 crore to Silver medalist and Rs. 75 lakhs to any Bronze medalist.
