Assam: 144 crpc imposed in animal corridor in Unesco Heritage Site at KNP

Guwahati: To protect the animals during the flood season, the Assam government has imposed section 144 crpc in the animal corridor attached to the Unesco Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park.
As per the district administration order, vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the National Highway 37 which falls in the route of Kaziranga National Park famous for its one-horned Rhino.
In the animal corridor at Panbari under the Bokakhat sub-division to Haldhibari, vehicles would not be allowed to speed more than 40 km per hour. The prohibitory order has come into force with immediate effect.
Heavy vehicles are not allowed to park in front of the hotels and restaurants along the National Highway in the restricted area.
Every year during floods which is an annual feature in Assam inundates more than 80 per cent of the park area which forces animals in the park to come on the highway for a safe shelter.
But the speeding vehicles on National Highway 37 turn out to be the killers of the wild animals of the park.
The animals get killed after being hit by speeding vehicles while crossing the National Highway.
In 2016, the flood level was much higher in Kaziranga and 212 animals died by drowning while six animals were killed by speeding vehicles on the National Highway.
