Kohima: The Naga People’s Front party has expressed deep concern over the health and economic welfare of the people during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the continuous lock-down throughout the state.
The party felt that the lockdown has severely affected the poorer sections of the society in terms of their ability to earn two square meals a day.
In a statement issued by the Press Bureau of the Naga People’s Front from Central Headquarters in Kohima has asked the Nagaland Government what programmes and initiatives it had taken so far in addressing these issues. Moreover, the essential commodities are skyrocketing and so far the Government authority has remained silent to meet the basic rights of the people. The party is equally concerned over the rise of COVID-19 daily cases, which is now slowly transmitting towards the rural areas and unless the Government seriously address the economic problem of the people, soon it may accounted to hunger dead soon.
Nevertheless, COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest threats in the entire world at the moment but no Government can let its people go hungry as earnings of the people have been paralyzed for months due to lock down, it said.
The NPF strongly demanded the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government to immediately address the plight of the people, if not; starvation will destroy the whole state. “The party categorically reiterated the demand raised by its legislature wing that the Government set up an inquiry into the Government’s financial management during the pandemic. The party stands its demand that a detailed White Paper on all the funds received and expenditures incurred thereof from 2020-21 to 2021-22 along with all relevant methodology of grants, processes of procurement, disbursement criteria be published. “It’s high time for the PDA should spill out the beans that has remained under their coffer out from the pandemic sake fund and genuinely work for the welfare of the people” it said.
“Further, time and again, the NPF reminded the Government of the day to properly sensitize the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine and at the meantime make sufficient availability of the vaccine to its people,” the statement said.
