Tura: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Friday reviewed the COVID-19 situation and other related matters in West Garo Hills district.
In view of the surge in cases of COVID- 19 patients in the district, Sangma stressed on the need to further prevent the spread of the virus in the district and also to observe the trend of positivity rate and prepare in advance the hospital beds with oxygen support so as to make it available as and when required by the patients in the coming days.
Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, Superintendent of Police, WGH, Dr. M G R Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Rezina Marak, District Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Marwin Sangma, Members of COVID-19 Management Committees were among others present at the meeting.
Referring to the strategy adopted in Shillong for management of Corona Care Community Centres where asymptomatic and those patients who needed mild oxygen are being kept and this centre is being run by the government by providing beds with oxygen concentrators including nurses, other staff and doctor on call for manning the centre, the Chief Minister said that same method can be followed here but informed the concerned medical officials to plan well in setting up the corona care centres in the district so that it can reduce the burden in hospitals in future.
Further, Sangma informed that the Cryogenic Oxygen Plant at Jengjal is in progress and would be completed soon and will be catering to the supply of oxygen to the districts in Garo Hills region.
Moreover, extending his support from the government side, the Chief Minister urged the concerned officials to increase the number of beds with oxygen support including corona care centres for Covid patients since this would be required when positive cases increase in future.
During the review meeting, the District Surveillance Officer for COVID-19 , Tura Dr. Mukrang Terang in his presentation highlighted the recent Covid-19 Status in West Garo Hills district with 931total positive cases, 510 total active cases with 415 (45 %) total recovery cases and 6 deaths in the district.
As per the presentation, 70 % of Positive Covid-19 patients belong to the urban areas and category A patients are under Home isolation, while category C and D patients are hospitalized and Category B patients are kept in the Corona Care Centre in SMELC building, Dakopgre.
Moreover, the COVID Vaccination Status as reported by Dr. Ivonne M Sangma, DMCHO, Tura where out of 2819 planned session and 2523 held sessions about 81170- beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far in the district.
Meanwhile, the Joint Director of Health Services, Garo Hills Region Dr Menakshi Sangma informed the number of beds available in Tura Civil Hospital and also informed that manpower is not enough to attend to these patients in the hospital.
