75th Independence Day celebrated across Mizoram

In his Independence Day address, the Chief Minister conveyed his good wishes to the people of Mizoram and across the country.

Aizawl: Mizoram, along with the rest of the country, observed the 75th Independence Day across the state with Independence Day functions held in all the district capitals and important towns of Mizoram. Chief Minister Zoramthanga attended the celebration at AR Ground, Aizawl as Chief Guest.

In his Independence Day address, the Chief Minister conveyed his good wishes to the people of Mizoram and across the country. Alluding to the indomitable courage and resilience of the people that had won India her freedom, he said that it is with the same fortitude that we will overcome the present hardships caused by the pandemic today.

He urged the people to remain strong and confident in order to be able to pursue our dreams of realising newer heights in the future. He saluted all the medical & healthcare personnel working round-the-clock to save lives, offering gratitude to the farming community, whose diligence and generosity ensure that the people have food on their tables even during the worst times of the pandemic.

He congratulated all the Volunteers of the various Task Forces, the NGOs, the Churches as well as the people of Mizoram for their support and conformity to the required standard operating procedure (SOP) executed from time to time by the government for the safeguard and welfare of all.

The Chief Minister also handed over various awards to mark the occasion:

I. President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service – VL Hmangaihzuala, Dy. SP (Legal), PHQ (announced on Republic Day, 2021)

II. Police Medal for Meritorious Service: (announced on Republic Day, 2021)

1) F. Lalhmingliana, Asst. CO, 3rd IRB.

2) Zarzokima, Inspector, OC, Aizawl Police Station

3) F. Vanlalkima, Inspector, Mizoram Police Central Armoury

III. Governor’s Gold Medal: (announced on Republic Day, 2021)

1) HHC Pradeepan EP, Kolasib DEF

2) Const. P.C. Zothanpuia, Security

IV. Governor’s Silver medal: (announced on Republic Day, 2021)

1) SI(AB) P.C. Liantluanga, 5th IR Bn.

2) Hav. Lalremmawia, 5th IR Bn.

3) Constable C.T. Vanlalhruaia, 5th IR Bn.

V. Mizoram State Teachers’ Award, 2021:

1) High School – C. Lalhluna, Headmaster, Govt. Bethlehem Vengthlang High School, Aizawl

2) Middle School – Rosangzuala Ralte, Headmaster, Govt. Edenthar Middle School, Aizawl

3) Primary School – Vanlalthangi Chhakchhuak, Headmistress, Govt. Electric Veng Primary School-II, Lunglei

The following policemen from Mizoram will receive the national awards by announced Union Home Ministry on Saturday:

I. President’s Police Medal (PPM) for Distinguished Service: K. Laltluangliana, Dy.SP, Traffic, Aizawl

II. Police Medal for Meritorious Service:

(i) Lallianmawia, Commandant, 4th IR Bn (Asst. Inspector-General of Police (Modernization), PHQ hna chelh lai mek a ni)

(ii) C.S Lalrinzuala, Asst. Commandant, 5th IR Bn.

III. President’s Fire Medal for Distinguished Service: Lalremmawia, Station Officer

IV. President’s Fire Medal for Meritorious Service: Ruatliana, Leading Fireman

V. Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation: V.L. Chama Ralte, Champhai DEF

While the celebratory parade was excluded at this year’s Independence Day function at Aizawl in consideration of COVID-19, ceremonial guard of honour presented by 5 armed contingents (2nd BN Assam Rifles, 90 BN BSF, 3rd BN MAP, 5th IR BN & Mizoram Home Guard) and one Band Party (First MAP Brass Band). They were led by Parade Commanders F. Vanlalrochana, DSP and Lalrinpuia Chenkual, SDPO, Aizawl South.
