Imphal: The 75th Anniversary of Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) was observed today, with a solemn function held at the Auditorium of the Directorate at Nityaipak Chuthek, Imphal.
Speaking at the function as the chief guest, Commissioner, IPR, M. Joy Singh, said that co-ordination between the IPR and other media fraternities is very necessary to deliver a significant service to the public. He said that IPR alone cannot publicise the public about the various policies and programme taken up by the government without the co-operation of the other stakeholders. In order to provide a free and holistic service and also to enable sustainability of peaceful co-existence with the sense of brotherhood amongst different sections of the society, co-ordination among stakeholders is very important. He appealed all concerned stakeholders to support the government in this regard.
Commissioner Joy highlighted the various initiatives taken up by IPR to inform the people of the state on various events, programme etc. from time to time. He also highlighted about the welfare measures taken up by the department for the journalists of the state.
Director, IPR, Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh, in his keynote address, said that since its existence, IPR has been disseminating information which are helpful for peace and harmony in the state. He said that the Directorate is playing a key role in connecting people with the government by giving information from time to time. He further stated that in this current scenario of the state, the role of IPR as well as media in general is of utmost importance so as to enable all to maintain a cohesive relationship. He appealed the AMWJU, EGM and MHJU to co-operate with the Directorate in verifying news to avoid circulation of fake news in the media.
Director asked the Officers, Officials and staffs of the Directorate to work sincerely with dedication and with a commitment to uphold the integrity and dignity of the Directorate. He also asked the technical staff to upgrade their skills to adjust with the changing technologies and assured to provide all the requirements.
Earlier, Commissioner inaugurated a Table Tennis Court in the DIPR complex. The Directorate also acknowledged the noble gesture extended by the Th. Chaoba Memorial Charitable Trust, Singjamei, for providing 30 Media Jackets to the DIPR officials out of the many arranged for the staffs by the Directorate. The Directorate also felicitated the representatives of the Trust. The Trust also, in turn, showed gratitude to the Directorate by presenting tokens of appreciation. Three (3) officials of the Directorate were also feted for their distinguished service.
Many retired officials of the Directorate were present in the observation function and they were felicitation with a simple token of love and appreciation. Invitees from the media fraternities, officers and staffs of the Directorate as well as from the district offices attended the function. (DIPR)
