500 Maoist militias surrender before Odisha Police

Police sources said the developmental activities undertaken by the Odisha government in the Swabhiman Anchal, once dominated by Maoist activities, has changed the life of the Maoist supporters.

Bhubaneswar: Motivated by the developmental activities of the Odisha government, another 500 Maoist sympathizers on Monday surrendered before the Malkangiri police.

Official sources said these Maoist supporters of Relegada Gram Panchayat surrendered before the Malkangiri police superintendent in the presence of the Border Security Force(BSF) at swabhiman anchal of Malkangiri district.

This was the second occasion during the last two months that a large number of Maoist militias surrendered before the police. Earlier on June 11 last about 295 Maoist supporters surrendered before the police.

Police sources said the developmental activities undertaken by the Odisha government in the Swabhiman Anchal, once dominated by Maoist activities, has changed the life of the Maoist supporters.

The surrendered Maoist militias also expressed their opposition to the Maoist ideology by burning their dresses and raising the slogan “ Maobadi Murdabad”.
