2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival 2025 kicks off

Organised by the Manipur State Film Development Society and the Manipur State Film & Television Institute, the festival celebrates the power of cinema in shaping culture and society.

Imphal: The 2ndEikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival, 2025 was inaugurated on Thursday at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. Organised by the Manipur State Film Development Society and the Manipur State Film & Television Institute, the festival celebrates the power of cinema in shaping culture and society.

Minister (Health & Family Welfare and IPR), Manipur, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the profound impact of films on individuals, communities, and the state, emphasizing their ability to bring positive change. He also noted that many film festivals and related events receive sponsorship from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and suggested that such initiatives should not fall under the purview of the Arts and Culture Department.

The Minister also took the opportunity to honor Aribam Syam Sharma, the Doyen of Manipuri Cinema, applauding his remarkable contributions to the world of cinema. He emphasized that language is never a barrier in film, as the performances of actors and the depth of storytelling can transcend linguistic differences, an aspect that makes cinema truly universal.

As part of the festival’s opening ceremony, a special bulletin titled “The Eikhoigi Daily” was released. The said bulletin will be released daily till the end of the festival. The event also included an awards presentation, with the Chief Guest, President, and Guest of Honor distributing mementos to distinguished individuals.

The ceremony was attended by P.K. Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, as President, alongside Aribam Syam Sharma, the Guest of Honor, among other esteemed dignitaries.

The festival promises a diverse lineup of films, discussions, and events aimed at fostering cinematic appreciation and cultural exchange. The festival will conclude on February 9, 2025.
