Imphal: In order to express gratitude to all frontline workers for their contribution in the fight against Covid-19, a team of the ‘Cycling for Humanity’, on behalf of Sagolband Assembly Constituency MLA RK Imo, his mother RK Sorojini Devi, Monday distributed food to nearly 900 patients and staff of Covid Care Centres of Lamboi Khongnangkhong, RD Wing and Bal Bhavan.
The food items were distributed for dinner as a mark of respect and remembrance of Late RK Jaichandra Singh, former Chief Minister of Manipur, on his 27th death anniversary on Monday.
In his remembrance, more edible items were also distributed to the children and staff at Children’s Home Tera, Porei Nawakon, Koirengei and Punya Nawa Yaiphakol, Thangmeiband.
People have faced lots of difficulties during these tough times of Covid, and no yearly customary rites could be performed for the late leader due to the rise in cases, said the office of MLA RK Imo.
The family of Late RK Jaichandra Singh, led by his wife RK Sorojini Devi and son RK Imo Singh, along with other family members decided to distribute these food items to all these Covid Centres and Children’s Home as a mark of remembrance on his death anniversary, it said and added that this is the best way one could serve the people during these trying times.
The lawmaker also thanked the team of ‘Cycling for Humanity’ for all the support given to make it successful. He has also wished everyone at the Covid Centres to get well soon and stay safely.
It may be recalled at the young age of 43, RK Jaichandra Singh became the first Union Minister from Manipur between 1985-88 in the erstwhile government of Late Rajiv Gandhi.
He was the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and later took charge as the Minister for Chemicals and Petrochemicals. He later became the Chief Minister of Manipur between 1988-90. He was instrumental in getting Sports Authority of India in Manipur which has led to the production of great sportspersons in Manipur and initiated the amendment of MLR LR Act in the Assembly as Chief Minister.
RK Jaichandra Singh died at the young age of 53 years at Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
