Shillong: A 25-member delegation of Bangladesh Mukti Jodhas (Freedom Fighters) visited the headquarters of Eastern Air Command at Upper Shillong in Meghalaya on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh delegation, led by Haroon Habib, a member of the Bangladesh Mukti Jodhas is currently visiting India to take part in the events as part of the “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” celebrations organised to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.
Senior Air Staff Officer Air Marshal AP Singh interacted with the brave Mukti Jodhas and praised their role and efforts towards the liberation of Bangladesh during the 1971 Bangladesh war.
The 25 Bangladeshis Mukti Joddhas were involved in the operation in 1971 from the Meghalaya Sector.
Meghalaya Commissioner & Secretary for Arts & Culture Department, Frederick Rou Kharkongor, who accompanied the delegation, thanked the Eastern Air Command for organising a befitting function and said that some members of the delegation even got emotional during the function as they relived their memories of the war.
Speaking on behalf of the Bangladeshis Mukti Joddhas, Haroon Habib paid homage to the heroic members of the Indian Armed Forces who fought for the liberation of Bangladesh and said that their contributions will remain enshrined in Bangladesh’s independence history.
The delegation will also call on Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Chief Secretary Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang on Thursday after their visit to Tamabil, the trading point between India-Bangladesh in West Jaintia Hills district and tourist spots.
They will also interact with Border Security Force officials.
