Imphal: Thirteen candidates of the BJP and 11 of the Congress for the Manipur Assembly election have criminal antecedents, a senior electoral officer said on Thursday.
“Bharatiya Janata Party has 13 candidates out of 60 with criminal antecedents while the Indian National Congress has 11 such candidates out of the list of 53.contestants it has declared,” Manipur Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Agrawal said here.
Agrawal said the candidates and political parties should publish the criminal antecedents of candidates in the formats given by the ECI. As per rules, all contesting candidates have to declare in a prescribed format, and in bold letters, the criminal cases pending against them.
The political parties also have to publish on their website and in widely circulated newspapers details about the criminal antecedents of their contestants. Agarwal said so far Rs 78 crore worth items have been seized.and 17,187 licensed arms deposited in the state.
The seized items include cash, drugs, liquor and gold.. He said an Android-based mobile app called Voter Facilitator App had been developed by IT Cell of CEO, Manipur.
The App will have three important features including information on average queue waiting time, wheelchair service booking facility and Postal Ballot opting service facility.
