New Delhi: Around 23 per cent winning candidates in Manipur Assembly elections have criminal cases registered against themselves, a report said on Saturday.
“Out of the 60 winning candidates analysed, 14 winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. In 2017, 2 (3 per cent) MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves,” the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said.
A total of 11 (18 per cent) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves, the election watchdog said. According to the ADR, 7 winning candidates from BJP, 4 from Congress, 1 each from National People’s Party (NPP), Janata Dal (United) and Independent have declared criminal cases.
Out of the 60 winning candidates analysed, 48 (80 per cent) are crorepatis, the report said. In 2017, 32 (53 per cent) MLAs were crorepatis, the ADR said.
The average of assets per winning candidates in the Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 is Rs 3.75 crore, it said.Â
