Kohima:Two Naga tribes under the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), the Chang Nagas and Sangtam Naga tribe, have decided to abstain from participation in the February 27 Nagaland Assembly elections.

According to a joint statement issued by Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Changsao Thangjam Setshang (CTS) and Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS) the organisations held an emergency meeting at the CKS Hall at Tuensang town on Saturday, where they resolved not to participate in the upcoming elections.


The meeting also resolved not to allow any individual from the Chang community to file nomination for the election and threatened stern action if anybody acts otherwise.


The CKS also endorsed the Chang Wedoshi Setshang to fully implement and act on the resolution. No political campaign shall be allowed within the Chang jurisdiction, the statement informed.

The United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) has also resolved to continue to fully support the August 26, 2022 ENPO resolution to abstain from participating in the upcoming election until the Government of India fulfils the demand of the ENPO for a separate state of ‘Frontier Nagaland.
