2 arrested with 5000 bottles of Codeine Phosphate Syrup

The two individuals were arrested at 5.50 pm at a place north of Lilong bridge and. 50 carton boxes each containing 100 numbers of 100ml Codeine Phosphate Syrup bottles were seized from them.

Imphal: A team of NAB Police Station while conducting random checking near Lilong Bridge area along Indo Myanmar Road on September 23 at around 4:30 pm, detained and checked one TATA Magic, white in colour, bearing registration number MN-04A 5739 which was found laden with 50 carton boxes.

There were two occupants of the TATA Magic, identified a BM. Md. Sabir Khan (23 yrs), son of BM. Md. Abdul Rahaman, resident of Lilong Litan Makhong, Thoubal District, Manipur, and  Phundreimayum Md. Imaran Khan (36 yrs), son of Md. Naijib Ahamad, resident of Sangaiyumpham Nungouphou Mathak Leikai, Thoubal District, Manipur,  who was the driver.

As the two occupants did not give proper specifications of the contents in the carton boxes, spot-checking was conducted. In that suspected Codeine Phosphate Syrup bottles were found in the carton boxes. On further spot verification, they stated that the suspected drugs were carried from Sangaiyumpham to be delivered at Mantripukhri. They also revealed that each carton box contained 100 bottles of suspected Codeine Phosphate Syrup making for a total of 5000 bottles.

The two individuals were arrested at 5.50 pm at a place north of Lilong bridge and. 50 carton boxes each containing 100 numbers of 100ml Codeine Phosphate Syrup bottles were seized from them.

One voter’s ID and one Mobile Phone Handset were also seized.

A case is registered at NAB PS and investigation is initiated, said a press note from the PRO, Manipur Police..
