Agartala:A local court sent 16 people including 13 Rohingyas, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one Indian human trafficker to jail on Sunday directing police to investigate the case and track down the network, a police source said here.
This group of foreigners along with a local agent identified as Abhijit Deb of Madhupur under Bishalgarh police station of Sepahijala district were detained by GRP from Kolkata-bound Kanchenjunga Express on Saturday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that all of them including Rohingyas illegally entered the Indian territory through Sonamura border from Bangladesh.
Abhijit Deb, the local agent who allegedly facilitated their travel to Kolkata from there all the foreigners were supposed to go as contract labourers to different parts of the country through a manpower supply agency.
Sources claimed over the past few years Rohingyas encamped in the Chittagong hill tract of Bangladesh have been infiltrating India for employment and fanning out to places like Hyderabad, Kerala, Jammu, Mumbai, and other states even they were sent abroad through ship consignments.
The porous border of Tripura with Bangladesh worsened by treacherous and avaricious human traffickers has been dealing serious blows to national security.
As many as 33 Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas were held at Agartala railway station in two weeks and another 31 were arrested last month while travelling to other parts.
