World AIDS Day Observed in Manipur

Speaking as Chief Guest, Minister, Information & Public Relations (IPR)Dr. S. Ranjan Singh said that the fight against HIV-AIDS has not yet over. The issue of HIV-AIDS was urban centric during those olden days. There has been a change during the past few years.

Imphal: World AIDS Day, 2023 was observed at the state level today. The observance was held at the auditorium of DIPR at Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal West under the theme “Let Community Leads”.


Speaking as Chief Guest, Minister, Information & Public Relations (IPR)Dr. S. Ranjan Singh said that the fight against HIV-AIDS has not yet over. The issue of HIV-AIDS was urban centric during those olden days. There has been a change during the past few years.


The rural areas have also been affected these days by this social menace, he added.


Minister informed that an aggressive approach is required to fight against drugs. The Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, has launched War Against Drugs. Cooperation by the public, working NGOs and community participation is very necessary to control the issue. Sharing views and public interaction on HIV-AIDS will also help to bring a positive solution in the regard, Minister suggested.


Shri Ranjan asserted that the Government has firm stand to work for the welfare of the people. The observance is organized at low scale in this year due to the present situation. The community at the front and to lead will have its significance to curb the problem of HIV-AIDS, he stated.
Speaking as President, Commissioner Health & FW and President MACS, PK Jha said that role of media is very important to spread awareness on HIV-AIDS. Community participation and role of the NGOs are also equally important. He also appealed to all to join the campaign on the eradication of HIV-AIDS.


Project Director, Manipur AIDS Control Society, MACS, Smt. Haobam Rosita Devi attended the occasion as Guest of Honour. Officials and staffs of MACS, representatives from NGOs, community workers and others also attended the occasion.
