Imphal: A 50 year old woman identified as Ibetombi was killed when unknown persons resorted to firing during celebrations of Argentina’s victory over France in the FIFA World Cup Final here on Sunday night.
After watching the final match, Ibetombi had reportedly retired at her home when she was hit by a bullet in her chest. She was rushed to the hospital, but she died from bullet wounds.
Manipur Police personnel along with forensic experts on Monday inspected the residence of Ibetombi here at Singjamei. Two bullet marks were found on the wall of the house.
The police said it was not yet known who was responsible for resorting to firing after the match. A sit-in protest was held to demand punishment for those involved in the killing.
The protestors said they will not claim the body of the deceased until the perpetrators are arrested and punished. They also demanded that the government not issue gun licences to irresponsible people to avoid such untoward incidents.
