Imphal: Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan said that he will urge the Centre to withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) if there is overall improvement in law and order situation and complete peace, calm and tranquility prevail in the State.
On the first day of his two days visit to Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, the Governor was addressing the public at a community interaction programme held at Nungbi Khullen Public Ground, under Chingai Sub-division of Ukhrul District Tuesday.
He said, with the improvement of law and order situation in some areas of the state, disturb area status has been withdrawn from these areas. If there is complete peace and tranquility in rest of the state in the coming days, then he will urge the Centre to completely withdraw the same.

Governor Ganesan further said that there are certain issues which are to be addressed immediately. Some issues are local, which is the concern of the State Government. In such issues, he assured the people that he will ask the Chief Minister to take prompt action.
Calling on the people to co-operate with the Government, especially in four different aspects, the Governor said, firstly, all citizens should be enrolled for Aadhar Card. All need to open a bank account to get the benefits of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). He continued that all have to be vaccinated with COVID-19 Vaccines as it will help us to fight the pandemic if possibly there comes a fourth wave.

Stating that the cross-border smuggling activities including drugs is becoming a tough challenge these days, Governor La. Ganesan urged the people to co-operate with the Government in the fencing works on the borderline.
Earlier interacting with the Governor, Tangkhul Civil Society Organizations urged to remove AFSPA completely from the State. Four (4) memorandums were also submitted to the Governor. They also urged to exempt the northeast from the imposition of the Hindi language.
Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Krishna Kumar; SP, Ukhrul, Saujanya Singh; District Level Officers and villagers greeted the Governor on his arrival at Nungbi Khullen Village. Cultural songs and dances were also shown as a part of the programme. Governor also inspected the famous Nungbi Pottery works of the village. Governor is accompanied by his Secretary Bobby Waikhom during his visit.
