Imphal: International Women’s Day was celebrated across Manipur on Saturday, including a special event organised by the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC), Manipur Branch, in collaboration with HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles and 46 Assam Rifles at the Relief Camp, Kha Manipur College, Kakching.
The program’s highlight was the felicitation of ten women from the Kakching area who have made significant contributions to various economic activities.

Ningthoujam Bidyapati, the first woman from Manipur to scale Mount Everest, served as the keynote speaker. She shared her inspiring journey, detailing the challenges she faced and the resilience required to overcome them. Her story provided encouragement and hope to the women at the relief camp, inspiring them to envision a brighter future.
Siddharth Huidrom from VKIC introduced the institute and its various initiatives. Speaking on behalf of the organization, he emphasized VKIC’s role as a voluntary and non-profit entity dedicated to restoring peace and prosperity in the state.

Priyadarshini Laishram, Superintendent of Police, Kakching, addressed the gathering, highlighting the challenges faced by women and reaffirming the commitment of both state and central forces to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The event concluded with a shared lunch, fostering a sense of community and solidarity among the women at the relief camp.
