Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day held across Manipur’s Thoubal district

VHSND has been conceptualized as a community-level strategy for convergent action for Health Early childhood Development Nutrition and Sanitation since 2007 by the National Health Mission.

Thoubal: As part of the Manipur government’s 100 days action plan District Health Society Thoubal organised VHSND at different villages in Thoubal District.  

VHSND has been conceptualized as a community-level strategy for convergent action for Health Early childhood Development Nutrition and Sanitation since 2007 by the National Health Mission. 

The program is organised once in a month. ASHAs, AWWs mobilized the villagers, especially women and children. During the program awareness was given regarding maternal health, child health, family planning, sanitation, communicable diseases, gender, and health promotion.

In the Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day held at Leishangthem Awang Leikai Bamon Mandop Dr Y. Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, Ch. Basanta Singh, District Program Manager, Dr. A. Ramananda Singh, Medical Officer, PHC Leishangthem and Sushila Devi, Supervisor, ICDS, Thoubal attended the programme. 

In his speech, Dr. Y. Nokul Singh explained that the VHSND is a monthly regular program organised in the village/leikais by ASHA/ANMs in coordination with Anganwadi workers. The program is included as one of the 100 action points for the first 100 days for FY 2022-23 to provide momentum to the new government to serve the people effectively throughout the year. 

During the health talk Dr. A. Ramananda highlighted on RMNCH-A+, the need for registration of newly pregnant women to the hospital, ANC cares, postnatal care services, Adolescent Health, the importance of breastfeeding, immunization, family planning methods and RTI/STI. Sushilla Devi, Supervisor, ICDS, highlighted about the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana which provides cash incentive up to Rs. 5000/- to the mother of first live birth and also about the fortified rice, nutritious food items and the need for intake of a balanced diet.

Ch. Basanta Singh, District Program Manager appreciated the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers for organizing the programme in a befitting manner and making the programme a grand success and highlighted on various programmes and schemes under National Health Mission and also explained the public about AB-PMJAY and Chief Minister gi Hakchel gi Tangbang and Chief Minister’s Health for All. Services like Covid-19 Vaccination, Immunization, 4 nos. PMMVY forms were given to the first-ever pregnant womens, low cost sanitary pads were also distributed to the adolescent girls, Iron Folic, Albendazole, were also distributed during the programme.About75 women, adolescents, children of the area attended the programme.  

Similar programmes were also held at Cherapur Mayai Leikai, Bishnunaha Keisham Mayai Leikai, Lilong Leihaokhong, Leirongthel, Tentha Mathak Leikai and Heirok Part-II Bazar. VHSNDs will be held at 107 Village/Leikais during the first 100 days.
