UYPC Uripok lifts 1st Athokpam Gandhar State Level Polo Tourney

Imphal:  UYPC, Uripok lifted the 1st Athokpam Gandhar @ German Memorial State Level Open Tournament organised by Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club,  defeating Black Watch Polo Club A 8-6 on Sunday at Ibudhou Marjing Polo Complex, Heingnang.

As the winner of the Tournament, UYPC, Uripok took home a cash prize of Rs 30,000 while the runners-up team Black Watch Polo Club A was awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000.  Imphal A Polo Club was declared the best-disciplined team and was presented a cash prize of Rs 5000  while L Atangba Black Watch Polo Club took home a cash prize of Rs 500 for emerging top scorer of the tournament.

In the final match, UYPC, Uripok started on a dominant note firing in three goals in the 1st Chukker, with Nongpoknganba scoring two goals and Shaolin Singh scoring the other. In response, Black Watch Polo Club could score only one goal through P Ojit.

In the 2nd Chukker, Black Watch surged ahead by scoring two more goals and Atangba adding one while UYPC failed to add any more goals to their tally. At the end of the 2nd chukker, Black Watch led 4-3.

In the 3rd Chukker, the two teams added one goal each with Bonbon scoring for Black Watch and Shaolin for UYPC.

UYPC literally galloped away with the match and the tournament in the 4th Chukker slotting in four goals with Nongpoknganba scoring two goals and Shaolin and Alex scoring one each. On the other hand, Black Watch managed to add only one goal through Jacob. The match ended 8-6 in favour of UYPC and with it the winner’s trophy.

Slam Vaiking and T Pradeep Kumar were the two mounted umpires while S Girimohan was the scorer of the final match.
