Washington: The US has announced another military aid package of $450 million for Ukraine, including four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems.
Expressing his gratitude, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country was grateful to US President Joe Biden and the American people for the decision.
On Friday, Zelensky tweeted: “This support, including additional HIMARS, is now more important than ever. By joint efforts, we will free Ukraine’s land from the Russian aggressor!”
The US Defence Department on Thursday said that it “announces the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance valued at up to $450 million to meet critical needs for Ukraine’s fight.
“This authorization is the 13th drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021,” it added.
The package includes four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, 36,000 rounds of 105mm ammunition, 18 tactical vehicles to tow 155mm artillery, 1,200 grenade launchers, 2,000 machine guns, 18 coastal and riverine patrol boats, spare parts, and other equipment.
The Department said that it ”has now committed approximately $6.8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration, including approximately $6.1 billion since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked invasion on February 24′.’
Since 2014, the US has provided over $8.7 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
