Urgent need to uplift people living below powerline: Manipur Governor

Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey emphasized the urgent need to uplift those living below the poverty line, develop world-class infrastructure, enhance communication and healthcare facilities, and promote skill-based vocational education to drive the nation forward. 

She made these remarks at the 8th Annual North East India Commerce and Management Association (NEICMA) Conference and a two-day International Seminar on ‘INDIA towards a $7 trillion economy by 2030’ organized by the Department of Commerce, Manipur University.

Governor Uikey congratulated the organizers for hosting such a significant event, particularly during a period when the state is grappling with economic challenges due to ethnic violence that erupted in May last year. She expressed hope that the conference would generate innovative ideas to boost the state’s economy.

The Governor praised NEICMA for its efforts in fostering strong relationships among commerce and management professionals in colleges, universities, and educational institutions through seminars, conferences, and workshops.

She also highlighted the interconnected nature of global economies, stating that trade relations are governed not only by the forces of demand and supply but also by a comprehensive set of bilateral and multilateral rules. She acknowledged the participation of experts and scholars from various countries, including Japan, Nepal, and different states of India, particularly the North-Eastern States, emphasizing that their contributions would significantly influence the discussions and deliberations during the conference.

Prominent attendees included Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University; Prof. Alok Kumar Chakrawal, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya; Prof. Th. Purnima Devi, Dean of the School of Social Science at Manipur University; Prof. Asamizu Munehiko from Yamaguchi University, Japan; Prof. Radhe Shyam Pradhan, Academic Director of Uniglobe College, Nepal; and Prof. Amrit Pal Singh, President of NEICMA.
