Bulandshahr (UP): Three farmers died due to asphyxia after they entered a well to take out the defective motor of a tubewell in Khanpur area of Bulandshahr district here in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, a senior officer said here.
Taking cognizance of the incident Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased farmers.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said that there is a 20 old tubewell in village Jadol which was lying closed for a long time due to a defect in the electric motor. “On Saturday morning Hansraj (43), Amil (28) and Kailash (55) entered the well one by one to take out the defective motor and fell unconscious,” he said.
He said that when the people standing near the edge of the well did not get any response even after repeated calls, the local residents descended down the well with the help of a rope and pulled the three farmers out with the help of the police. “The trio was taken to a hospital where doctors declared them dead,” he said.
The SSP said that it is being suspected that the incident took place due to poisonous gas as the well of the tubewell was closed for a long time. “The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination,” he said.
