Imphal: At least two people killed and over 70 others sustained injuries after violence erupted once again in Manipur on Friday.
Police said a fierce gunbattle between armed miscreants and security forces took place at Pallel area. The firing reportedly broke out at around 6 am after the personnel of Assam Rifles tried to control an ongoing gunbattle between two groups.
Jitendra Ningombam, Coordinator, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), meanwhile, accused the alleged Kuki Narco-terrorists of the unprovoked firing towards the Meitei villages.
Speaking to The North East Affairs, Ningombam said these terrorists were trying to internationalise the situation as the G20 Summit was going to be held in Delhi on Saturday. He said that not only at Pallel, one girl also injured in her head when Kuki militants fired upon at Koutruk village under Imphal West district on Friday.
His statement comes after Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson of ITLF media cell, earlier accused the Meiteis volunteers for attacking Kuki-Zo village at Pallel areas and even claiming that one security personnel also died in the gunbattle.
An Army officer, however, denied the claim of ITLF and said no personnel was killed in the incident.
One of the deceased has been identified as Jiten, and he received injuries in his head .
During the violence incident at Pallel, six people had bullet injuries and 11 others sustained serious injuries.
