Two Indian Army officers held by CBI in bribery case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four persons, including two Army officials, senior Barrack Officer and a Subedar Major, in an alleged bribery case, the probe agency said on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Rahul Pawar, Senior Barracks Store Officer (Lt Col) and Pradeep Kumar, Subedar Major, both posted at MES Ambala Cantt. And Dinesh Kumar and Pritpal, both are contractors, CBI said in a statement.

A case was registered against the accused on the allegations of demanding the bribe.

The alleged payment of bribe was to ensure that most of the tenders/orders from Ambala Cantt were awarded to said private contractors, it added.

CBI laid a trap and caught both officials and the said private persons (bribe givers) in the course of a transaction of Rs.22.48 lakh.

During searches, Rs 32.50 lakh and incriminating documents were recovered from the premises of the Lt Col and an amount of Rs 16 lakh was also recovered from the possession of the said contractors, statement stated.

All the four accused will be produced before the Court.
