Bishnupur : Tronglaobi village in Bishnupur district had long been facing a persistent shortage of safe drinking water. To meet their daily requirements, villagers were compelled to frequently hire civil water bowsers, causing considerable financial burden and hardship, particularly for women and children. When this issue came to the notice of the Indian Army, immediate steps were taken to address the problem. Under the aegis of the Red Shield Division of Spear Corps, the Indian Army dedicated an RO Water Filtration and Storage Facility at Tronglaobi village on 10 March 2026 under Op Sadbhavana, ensuring access to safe and reliable drinking water for the community.

Executed at a total cost of ₹12 lakhs, the facility has been designed to ensure dependable access to clean drinking water for the villagers. The system is equipped with a pumping capacity of 2,000 litres per hour and a filtration capacity of 500 litres per hour, enabling it to supply up to 12,000 litres of purified drinking water daily. Adequate storage capacity has also been created for both raw and filtered water to ensure uninterrupted availability.

Earlier, villagers relied on hired civil water bowsers to meet their needs. A 1,200-litre bowser costs approximately ₹800 per trip, while a 9,000-litre bowser costs around ₹1,500 per trip. With the RO facility now providing nearly 12,000 litres of filtered water daily equivalent to three 1,200-litre bowsers and one 9,000-litre bowser-the community now saves approximately ₹3,900 per day, amounting to nearly ₹1.17 lakh in monthly savings.

The facility is expected to benefit approximately 80. 100 households daily, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in and around Tronglaobi North and South. Additionally, the availability of water within the village reduces the requirement of nearly ten bowser trips daily for households with an average demand of about 1,000 litres per day, resulting in further savings of approximately ₹8,000 for these families. Beyond financial relief, the initiative improves hygiene and sanitation standards while strengthening civil–military cooperation and reinforcing the bond of trust between the Indian Army and the people of Manipur.
