Tripura: Woman commits suicide after obscene video showing her played in public

Agartala: A 23-year-old housewife of Sabroom in South Tripura committed suicide yesterday after a video showing her intimate moments with a man, was showed on a big screen on Wednesday before the people during an arbitration meeting at Birendra Chowmuhani Bazaar of Betaga ADC village on Tuesday.
The victim’s family alleged that after watching the video, local people gathered in front of her house. They garlanded her with shoes, chopped her hair and stripped her naked. They then tied her with a rope and dragged her across the village. This continued for an hour.
Unable to bear the attack on her dignity and extreme humiliation, she consumed poison after returning home and died immediately.
However, no one has been arrested so far in connection with this incident although her family has lodged a complaint against some of her neighbours for abatement to suicide.
They alleged that one Basanta Tripura, who was in the relationship with her, shot the video of their intimate moments without her knowledge.
Later, when their relationship turned sour, Basanta shared it with local BJP leaders Kamal Tripura and Sajal Tripura, who allegedly played it before the villagers in the meeting.
