Tripura suspends local train service

Agartala: After the suspension of entire vehicular traffic movement in the state during the second phase of Corona Curfew began from today till June 5 next, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has suspended all local train service in the state following surge of Covid-19 cases till June 6.

However, the daily train connecting Silchar from Agartala and alternative day train service with Guwahati and Kolkata would remain operational. The trains connecting Agartala from Delhi, Bengaluru and Habibganj had been cancelled earlier.

The flight operation is also normal but there is strict surveillance on the passengers traveling to Agartala, officials said here today.

Tripura government has extended Corona Curfew across the state from today and allowed only the shops of essential items and food market to function between 0600 hrs and 1200 hrs everyday for next ten days. No person is allowed to come out from the home unless engaged in specified emergency service besides all kinds of vehicles and service providers.

Meanwhile, the state government announced a massive vaccination drive in the next two days in Agartala Municipal Corporation area considering the high number of Covid cases. The local clubs have been asked to provide space and extend all support to hold vaccination programme in the respective localities.

“We have been given priority to Agartala for vaccination at this stage due to high rate of infection and rest of the states would be provided vaccine subsequently after getting the next consignments. As of now, Covid positive rate remains at 5.38 per cent while the fatality rate is reduced to 0.99 per cent and the recovery rate rises to 87 per cent.
