Agartala: The Chairman of ruling TIPRA Motha in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman reacted sharply over the alleged nepotism in providing jobs recently by the ADC administration and warned the leaders to refrain from any such activities.

Pradyot has been outside the state for the last few weeks but he became upset receiving the reports of nepotism and corruption in the employment process.

Although he did not specify grievances, his social media post was indicative of irregularities in recruitments going on in ADC.

In a social media post, Pradyot said, “No immediate family member belonging to TIPRA will be given a job when there are thousands of jobless people in the state. I am returning back to the state after my treatment and such things will not be tolerated. Our only commitment should be Greater Tipraland, as long as I am there, I will not allow such practices.”

According to the report, the opposition BJP accused TIPRA Motha Members of the Development Council and leaders of providing jobs to their preferred people and relatives violating all regulations and procedures.

A section of TIPRA Motha members have brought the matter to Pradyot seeking course correction, the report stated.

Relatives of several senior party leaders find a place among the shortlisted candidates to some extent depriving some talented candidates.

Daughter of senior TIPRA leader Sindhu Kanya Jamatia who holds the charge of secretary Women TIPRA Federation was selected for a post in the ADC’s education department, BJP members in ADC council alleged.

The opposition BJP and CPI-M in ADC have launched a campaign against TIPRA Motha accusing them of indulging corruption, favoritism, and nepotism in the distribution of jobs in various departments, which pulled Pradyot into an awkward situation ahead of Village Council elections to be held in the next three months and assembly elections in six months.

Sources said the top leaders of the BJP have been in touch with Pradyot seeking an alliance with TIPRA for the next assembly elections but the tribal leaders of the BJP and a section of state-level leaders are not favoring the coalition. As a result, Congress has been getting closure to TIPRA for forging an alliance before the upcoming assembly poll.

The BJP tribal front leader and Loksabha MP Rebati Tripura, party Vice President Patal Kanya Jamatia, and Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia have been opposing Pradyot in public and accused him of persuading communal politics.
