Agartala: A 28-year-old housewife committed suicide herself after feeding formic acid to her 18-month-old son at the remote Champamura hamlet of Hadrai ADC village under Teliamura police station limit of Khowai on Monday.
Police launched an investigation into the incident but have yet to make any breakthrough over the reason for the suicide.
However, primafeci believed that the deceased had been under severe financial strain over last few months, as she was deserted by her husband and couldn’t manage the square meals.
Both mother and son died on the spot.
Police said the deceased was identified as Fulrani Jamatia first poured formic acid into the mouth of her one and half-year-old son Ayush Jamatia, which is used for rubber processing and storage. Thereafter, she consumed the same outside their thatch.
The strains of formic acid were found on the spot and the post-mortem report has also indicated that the deaths were caused due to acid consumption, police added.
The initial investigation revealed that the deceased and her husband were passing through a bad phase of their conjugal life.
The husband Sambhu Jamatia deserted her and got married to another woman a few months back.
