Tripura enhanced MSP for paddy to Rs 21.83 per kg to buy 40 MT

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that in the last Rabi season, the state government procured paddy at Rs 20.40 per kilogram but with an aim to boost the income of the farmers across the state, Food Department and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department jointly go for paddy procurement from 40 locations.

Agartala: Tripura government has announced to procure at least 40 MT paddy directly from the farmers during the kharif season at an enhanced minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 21.83 per kilogram, which will begin shortly.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that in the last Rabi season, the state government procured paddy at Rs 20.40 per kilogram but with an aim to boost the income of the farmers across the state, Food Department and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department jointly go for paddy procurement from 40 locations.
“Paddy is being purchased every season to increase the stock of food grains in the state and country and to ensure the appropriate price of the item in the market”, the minister said, adding that in this season, a target has been set higher than that of the previous year and to ensure that a single farmer should not be forced to sell his produce at a price less than the MSP.
