Kolkata: West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Tuesday came down heavily on the BJP for allegedly indulging in violence during its March to Nabanna (the state secretariat) program.
“BJP4Bengal karyakartas or HOOLIGANS? Destroying & damaging government property, attacking police personnel, causing chaos and disrupting peace across the state – today’s activities of BJP that brought shame upon the entire nation, ” the party tweeted.
“We STRONGLY CONDEMN such outrageous behavior!” it said.
Clashes between the police and BJP workers broke out and leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari was detained as the saffron party activists began their March to Nabanna in protest against the Trinamool Congress’ rampant “corruption”.
Adhikari, who was put into a prison van before he could reach Satragachi of Howrah district, alleged that a “mortally afraid” Trinamool Congress was using the police to prevent his party workers from reaching Nabanna peacefully.
