Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Thursday said his government was trying to unite people and bring equitable development to the state and sought the support and cooperation of the public.

“We are all one, we should forgive and forget our historical mistakes,” Biren said while attending the Poumai Thounii festival at Phaibung Khullen in Senapati district.

The festival celebrated on the theme Sustaining Culture by the Poumai people showcases cultural and other traditional shows.

Biren Singh said Poumai are known for their discipline, hardwork and traditional values and added that the various communities in the state have brotherly relations.

“We had been set apart due to lack of development, interaction and communication between the people in the past,” the Chief Minister said highlighting the need to visit and interact with people from across the State so as to bring unity.

He stressed on the benefits of introducing the Go to Hills and Go to Village schemes. Senapati district has also witnessed a huge developmental change over the past few years, he said.

Biren Singh said that it is encouraging that the people seem to be emphasising more on terrace cultivation rather than taking up jhum cultivation, and added that the government is also in the process of encouraging terrace cultivation.
