Agartala: The Superintendent of Police South Tripura police has suspended three constables in connection with the escape of an undertrial during a medical test in Belonia hospital yesterday. Police launched massive haunts against the accused but have not yet been able to find him out who was believed to flee in Bangladesh.
According to the report, 33 years old Nayan Bose of Amzadnagar village under Belonia was arrested on Aug 21 last on the charge of stealing rupees three lakhs from a shop in the village. He was kept in police custody for the night and the next morning before producing him to court, Nayan was taken to hospital for mandatory medical tests under heavy security cover.
After medical examination, police had escorted him to the toilet for natural calls inside a ward in the hospital and three policemen identified as Kurana Biswas (59), Gobinda jamatia (55) and Chaya Chandra Uchai (47) were on duty with him at the door. After some time when they noticed that Nayan was not coming out, police broke the door and found he escaped from a ventilator.
Police raised alarm and launched a search in the locality with a high-security cordon but failed to trace him out. Besides, hospital complex and market area, police had conducted searches in the nearby houses for a long time. Three weeks ago in a similar incident, an accused of theft identified as Ibrahim Mia (24) of the same village had run away from the hospital toilet during the medical test and as of the date, he is traceless.
Immediately, after the incident, the district police authority suspended three policemen at night and initiated departmental proceedings accusing them of dereliction of duty. However, police claimed that they have issued alerts to nearby police stations and BSF have been alerted to keep a close watch.
