Agra (UP): Three of a family committed mass suicide in the Sikandara area in Agra here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Wednesday.
Police sources said the bodies of a man, his wife, and his daughter were found hanging in a house in sector 10 of Awas Vikas Colony in the morning.
“Sonu Sharma (30), his wife Gita (28), their eight-year-old daughter, and six-year-old son lived in house number 1046 in EWS colony,” they said.
Police sources said on Tuesday night the family slept on the first floor of the house. “On Wednesday around 7 am Sonu’s son Shyam came downstairs and went outside to play. When one of the acquaintances asked Shyam to go and bring something from his house, he refused. Shyam told the acquaintance that his father, mother, and sister were hanging and he is feeling scared,” they said.
Police sources said later Sonu’s brother-in-law Vijay Kashyap and other family members reached the spot and found the family hanging from the ceiling. “The bodies were brought down and the police were informed,” they said.
Police sources said that Sonu’s father prepared the body of the trucks in Transport Nagar and currently he was unemployed.
Inspector Sikandara said so far the cause of suicide was not known and efforts are being made to ascertain it. “As Sonu was unemployed the family was facing financial crisis due to which there used to be an altercation between the couple often. It is being assumed that they had an altercation on Tuesday due to which they took extreme steps,” police sources said.
