Three more legislators quit Meghalaya assembly

The third legislator to put in his papers was Samlin Malangiang of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party.

Shillong: Ahead of the Meghalaya assembly election, three more legislators resigned as members of the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The three legislators includes two People’s Democratic Front (PDF) legislators, Hamletson Dohling and Jason Sawkmie Mawlong. Dohling is Information Technology Minister.


The third legislator to put in his papers was Samlin Malangiang of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party.


The trio will be joining the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in the next few days and contest the upcoming assembly polls.


With the resignation of these three legislators, the effective strength of the present assembly has reduced to 50 members in the 60-member legislative assembly.


On the other hand, S.G Esmatur Mominin, who resigned from the primary membership of NPP and as well from the assembly on Wednesday joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC).


Apart from Mominin, sitting Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and former legislator Robinus Syngkon also joined the TMC during a joining-cum-poll campaign launch ceremony of the party held at Pine Wood hotel here.
