Shillong: Three more people have been arrested so far in connection with the IED blast that injured two people at Laitumkhrah market here in Meghalaya on August 10, police said on Saturday.
With the arrest of three more persons, including a surrendered Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant, the total number of arrested persons has gone up to four, police said.
The arrested trio are identified as Kitbok Sohklet alias Franko, a surrendered HNLC militant, Sufiyan Ali Hazarika alias Manbalang Jyrwa and Gary S Myrboh.
Jyrwa, whom police believed that he is confidant of the outfit’s publicity secretary, Sainkupar Nongtraw, was arrested in January 2013 for editing and publishing articles and propaganda material of the outfit on Facebook.
Earlier, police had arrested Tenzing Khonglah, an HNLC harbourer for his alleged involvement in the blast incident. “All them were involved in the IED blast. We are still interrogating them,” a police official said refusing to divulge details on the status of the investigation into the IED blast.
Former HNLC General Secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was the prime accused in the IED blast, was killed by the police at his residence after one of the policeman fired in self-defence on August 13.
The government has instituted a judicial probe into the killing of Thangkhiew.
