New Delhi: MPs from the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) walked out of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday over Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s remark that the bill to split Andhra Pradesh was passed in haste and moved a privilege motion against him.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge stood up to object Modi’s remark saying the Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament. The Chair did not allow Kharge to speak fully.

TRS members meanwhile rushed towards the Speaker’s chair protesting against the Prime Minister. The TRS MPs also moved a Privilege Motion against the Prime Minister in the Upper House.

The TRS and the Congress resorted to statewide protests on Wednesday against Modi’s remarks and demanded an apology from him.

Earlier, Modi said the Bill was passed hastily “without any debate or consultation with stakeholders over the bifurcation of the state”. But he added that he was not against the formation of Telangana. The TRS called Modi’s comment an insult to the Constitution.
