Imphal: The Thadou Community International (TCI) has expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for organizing a crucial peace meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting brought together 20 MLAs from Manipur’s Zo, Meitei, and Naga communities to discuss the ethnic violence that has gripped the state since May 3, 2023.
In a press statement, TCI acknowledged that while the initiative to address the ongoing conflict should have been taken sooner, it is a positive step that should be welcomed by all peace-loving and conscientious citizens, regardless of community or political affiliation.
TCI also commended the participants for their unanimous decision to appeal to the public to reject violence and work toward peace, as noted in a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB). The organization described the meeting as “a beacon of hope for Manipur’s troubled landscape.”
The statement praised the attending MLAs for their leadership and wisdom in taking steps toward peace. “Leaders must have the courage to tell the truth and provide genuine hope to their people, rather than misleading them with false promises,” TCI emphasized.
TCI called upon government authorities, media groups, community leaders, and concerned organizations to collaborate in promoting truthful and positive messaging that fosters peace, rather than inciting violence through negative narratives or rhetoric.
The organization highlighted that this meeting marks a significant step toward healing and long-term peace and development in Manipur. It urged for more such discussions in the future, not just among elected representatives but also involving civil society organizations, community leaders, intellectuals, diaspora members, and the general public.
