Tamenglong: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great fervour at Apollo Ground, Tamenglong HQs, featuring a variety of cultural performances and significant awards that highlighted community achievements and public service.
Dr. L Angshim Dhangsawa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Tamenlong, the chief guest of the celebration unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute from the March past contingents.
The Chief Guest, in his Republic Day celebration speech emphasized the importance of public cooperation in enhancing government services.
He also pointed out the need for collaboration among citizens to ensure effective implementation of government projects. “The government has provided ample projects, but many contractors fail to complete their work. We have good people in our community, and we need more to foster a better society,” he stated, urging everyone to contribute positively.
In a moment of pride for the Tamenglong district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) were awarded Commendation Certificates by the Chief Minister for their strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations.
A highlight of the day was the introduction of the “Citizen of the Year Awards.” The first recipients were Rianglong Village Authority, Tamei Sub-Division – Recognized for their commendable Kagiujai fish conservation effort initiated in 2018, in collaboration with the Ntu Village Council, Nagaland. Their initiative aims to conserve and repopulate fish in the Barak River, covering a conservation area of 1 km between the two villages, thereby promoting awareness of natural resource conservation.
Secondly, Aliampou of Namtiram Village, Tousem Sub-Division – Honored for his exceptional honesty and integrity, Aliampou, a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector, voluntarily returned a public fund of Rs. 9,42,797 that was inadvertently credited to his pension account. His actions exemplify the spirit of integrity in public service.

S.D Letlen, Assistant Commandant 5th Manipur Rifles Tamenlong was the overall parade commander of the March past contingents.
All together 28(twenty eight) contingents consisting of 5th MR platoon, Manipur civil police, VDF, NCC, scouts and guides and schools and college students took the March past a distance of nearly 2km from Zadonang park till the republic day venue Apollo lower ground showcasing the disciplined formations of school students and uniformed personnel.
The celebration included a special performance by students of Trinity Public School, a cultural dance by the New Canaan Dance Troupe, and a vibrant Bangra dance by the 6 Assam Rifles.
In the march past competition, the results were as follows: the Trinity Public School Girls Contingent secured third place, the Trinity Public School Boys Contingent achieved second place, while the United Builders School Girls Contingent proudly took home the first position.
Credentials awards and appreciation certificates were also given out to many government employees and institutions including medical departments, police, and schools during the 76th Republic Day celebration in Tamenglong district headquarters.
