Student commits suicide after being scolded for chewing ghukta

Mahoba (UP): A 17-year-old girl hanged herself and committed suicide allegedly after being scolded by her teacher for chewing ghutka in Kabrai area of Mahoba district here in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, a police officer said here.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Satyam said that Anjali, a resident of Vivek Nagar, who was a class 11th student in an inter college was addicted of chewing gutkha. “On the complaint of other students, the college teacher searched Anjali’s bag and found a pouch of ghutka,” he said.
He said that the teacher called Anjali’s father Amit Kumar Sahu and lodged a complaint and advised him to send her to the school only after she stops chewing ghukta and send her back. “It is being claimed that perturbed with the incident Anjali hanged herself and committed suicide at her home,” he said.
The ASP said that when the family members peeped from the window they saw Anjali hanging from the roof. “The body has been sent for postmortem examination and the matter is being investigated,” he said.
