Rishra (West Bengal): West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose on Tuesday said strict action will be taken against those who are causing unrest in the state.
He said people have the right to live in peace.
Anand Bose said, “I have come here to look into the whole situation. Strict action will be taken. I will not allow the law to be going into the hands of miscreants. The people of Bengal have the right to live in peace. Peace will be restored. The miscreants will be suppressed with strict hands.’
The governor tried to understand the situation from the police officials about what happened last night, how many police were there on Monday, how many police forces are currently deployed.
A fresh stone-pelting incident was reported in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Monday evening, forcing the railways to suspend all local and mail express train services operating to and from Rishra railway station.
Eastern Railway chief public relations officer Kaushik Miron said the incident of stone pelting occurred at Rishra station.
“Train movements over the Howrah-Bandel main line section in both up and down direction had to be suspended from 22:06 hrs of 3.4.2023 in view of stone-throwing incident near level crossing gate no. 4 (spl) of Rishra (Shrirampur end),” Miron said in a statement.
The incident came a day after clashes erupted during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Shobha Yatra in Hooghly on Sunday.
The state government later issued prohibitory orders and also suspended internet services across the district.
The Governor reached Rishra around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. He went to Railgate No. 4, where fresh unrest broke out on Monday night. Chandannagar Police Commissioner Amit P Javalgi was with him there.
The police commissioner also gave him details in a report.
After the police officials, the governor met the railway officials. Train movement on Howrah-Burdwan branch was suspended due to renewed unrest on Monday night. It has been normal since this morning. The governor wants to know about this matter from the railway officials. They will also tell everything that happened.
Earlier, the governor met reporters at the Kolkata airport and said, “We all know about the turbulent situation created in the state. Those who created this situation will be punished under the law. Dark forces will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against those who are doing bad things.”
He said the people of Bengal will not have to bear this situation anymore. The right of people to live well must be secured. The situation must be changed at any cost.
“We are with the people of Bengal. There is no disagreement in this matter. We will work together. Political violence and unrest. No obstruction will be tolerated in quelling the situation,” the governor said.
The governor visited North Bengal. It was said that he will attend the convocation of North Bengal Agricultural University on Wednesday and return to Kolkata on Thursday But after cutting that schedule, he returned to Kolkata by air from Bagdogra on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, Governor Bose has cut short his visit due to the riot incident.
Meanwhile, 50 people have been arrested so far in the Hooghly violence. Among them, 12 people were arrested in the incident of violence on Sunday. 40 people were arrested on Monday.
